name:
A novel hepatitis B virus variant S 129 (Gln-->Leu): lack of correlation between antigenicity and immunogenicity.
description:
Mice immunized with the wild-type plasmid DNA encoding the HBsAg produced anti-HBs antibodies. Mice immunized with a construct containing a class II variant, a mutation at residue 129 (Q to L), failed to produce anti-HBs antibodies, suggesting a key role for Q129 in binding. This residue lies within the ""a"" determinant of the HBsAg and is known to be important in neutralization.
