| name: |
Broad cross-protection against H5N1 avian influenza virus infection by means of monoclonal antibodies that map to conserved viral epitopes.
|
| description: |
Mice were challenged with 10 MLD50 of either one of four representative H5N1 strains A/VNM/1194/2004, A/BH Goose/QH/15C/2005, A/IDN/5/2005, or A/SZ/406H/2006. Survival, body weight loss and viremia were significantly improved for all flu strains when mice received 20 mg/kg of the epitope-specific, H5 cross-reactive mAb at different times after infection. Full protection was observed in the groups receiving the mAb on day 1 or 2 after infection and protection was observed for some strains even when treatment was delayed to 3 days after infection. For doses as low as 5 mg/kg, protection at day 1 p.i. was complete.
