Administration of the epitope specific monoclonal antibody protected mice from collagen induced arthritis in DBA/1J mice as measured by clinical score, TNFalpha, IL-1beta, and IL-6 mRNA levels. T-cell apoptosis, measured by TUNEL assay, was also observed in CIA mice treated with the monoclonal antibody with upregulation of Bim and Bax and downregulation of Bcl-2. NF-κB was also suppressed by the epitope specific monoclonal antibody.
