Cartilage-specific autoimmunity in rheumatoid arthritis: characterization of a triple helical B cell epitope in the integrin-binding-domain of collagen type II.
|
| description: |
Serum from a patient with severe rheumatoid arthritis, on the basis of high anti-CII autoantibody levels, recognized the epitope by ELISA. The exact epitope residues were identified by truncation mapping with CII fragment constructs, and epitope binding was also with a peptide competition ELISA. Patient follow-up over a 4-year period reflects the influences of disease activity and treatments on anti-epitope autoantibody levels.
