Availability of dinitrophenylated lipid haptens for specific antibody binding depends on the physical properties of host bilayer membranes.

| description: |
Anti-nitroxide IgG1 monoclonal antibody bound to dipalmitoylphophatidylcholine liposomes containing nitroxide lipid hapten II with an apparent binding constant of 1.5 x 108 M-1 at 0 C or 37 C, temperatures below the lipid transition temperature. Anti-nitroxide IgG1 mAb bound to nitroxide lipid hapten II liposomes containing dimyristoylphophatidylcholine (transition temperature = 22 C) both at 0 C (solid membranes) or at 37 C (fluid membranes) with similar affinity. The structure of nitroxide lipid hapten II is found in the reference cited: Balakrishnan et al. (1982) J Biol Chem 257: 6427-6433 [PMID: 6281271].
