name:
Suppression of experimental myasthenia gravis by a B-cell epitope-free recombinant acetylcholine receptor.
description:
The epitope sequence is from the reference cited: Tzartos (1998) Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 85: 2899-2903 [PMID:3362855]. The epitope sequence is identical in acetylcholine receptor subunit alpha from rat.
Sera from myasthenic rats recognized the epitope as deduced by their reduced reactivity with human AChR alpha-subunit fragment 1-210 with deletion of the epitope, residues 67-76. Deletion of another B cell epitope, residues 129-145, or both regions also significantly reduced reactivity by ELISA and Western blotting.
