The epitope sequence was previously described in Deutscher et al, Proc Natl Acad Sci USA:85(9479) 1988 [PMID:3200833].
The epitope sequence was deduced from a series of overlapping peptides. Binding to the epitope was significantly higher in sera from patients with SLE compared to healthy controls. Binding increased after sera were affinity purified with Ro protein.
