name:
Detection of antibodies directed against the cytoplasmic region of the human acetylcholine receptor in sera from myasthenia gravis patients.
description:
The epitope sequence is found in the cited reference, Tzartos and Remoundos, Eur J Biochem. 207(3):915 [PMID: 1379917]. It has a single substitution in the human AChR protein, V to I at position 7.
The polyclonal papain-treated patients' sera was demonstrated to be epitope specific by its inhibition of binding to human AchR protein of the epitope-specific mAb. Approximately half of the sera (46/95) caused a detectable reduction (~20%) in the binding of epitope-specific MoAb 155, while efficient competition (≥50%) was seen with 16 sera (17%).
