The epitope has a disulfide bond between cysteine residues at positions 1 and 16.
In the structure, the conformation of the epitope backbone between amino acids 293 and 302 was essentially identical in complexes with both Fabs, mAb806 [PDB: 1G5V] and mAb175 (this structure) and closely related to the conformation of this region in the whole EGFR structure [PDB: 1MOX]. In contrast, the free peptide adopts a random coil structure, as determined by NMR spectroscopy (this reference).
