Positive staining was seen as a dark ring enclosing the oocyte. Antigenic ZP3 material was also recognized in the ooplasm. In transmission electron microscopy of ultrathin sections of human ovaries, the sites of immunoreaction of the antiserum was almost exclusively found in the ZP.
