name:
Periodate-resistant carbohydrate epitopes recognized by IgG and IgE antibodies from some of the immunized mice and patients with allergy.
description:
The periodate-treated glycan included here is the result of the reaction of periodate with the N-glycan from phytohemagglutinin. The structure is ubiquitous in the plant and insecta phyla.
Recognition of periodate-treated PHA N-glycan by horseradish peroxidase-immunized animals IgG was found in 3 out of 9 mice, implying that the core trisaccharide can be part of the cross-reactive carbohydrate determinants (CCDs) in these glycoproteins. The IgG1 isotype was tested and also found to recognize the periodate-treated N-glycan.
