name:
Main immunogenic region of Torpedo electroplax and human muscle acetylcholine receptor: localization and microheterogeneity revealed by the use of synthetic peptides.
description:
The epitope sequence is from the reference cited: Barkas et al. (1988) J Biol Chem 263: 5916-5920 [PMID: 2451673].
The epitope recognized by the mAbs was determined by its reactivity with overlapping peptides spanning the sequence of AChR. The mAbs recognized a tandem repeat of the epitope. The tandem epitope repeat peptide inhibited the binding of mAb 198 or 203 to alpha-bungarotoxin-labeled native Torpedo AChR as well as a tandem repeat of the homologous human AChR alpha peptide 67-76. The authors conclude that mAbs 198 and 203 recognize residues 67-74 in the main immunogenic region (MIR).
