Rabbit anti-epitope serum inhibited pooled sera from 20 patients with Graves' disease or lymphocytic hypothyroid disease (Hashimoto's thyroiditis) from binding to thyroid peroxidase (TPO). The mean level of inhibition was 41.2%, indicating the patients' sera contained antibodies to the epitope. Fab fragments of rabbit anti-epitope Ab also inhibited binding by 32.2%.
