name:
Murine malaria: anti-erythrocytic antibodies recognize N-acetyl neuraminic acid residues.
description:
Mice infected with Plasmodium berghei made antibodies to the epitope, as detected by antibody binding to plate-bound infected and non-infected mouse erythrocytes being competed by the epitope. Direct binding was also shown by sera from mice during peak parasite infection. Antibodies affinity-purified on a Fetuin column were found to bind to double and single-stranded DNA.
