description:	The epitope was deduced. The organism name is called by its synonym Microsporum quinckeanum in the manuscript. Complement fixation by the anti-mannan antiserum was tested against the homologous antigen and to mannans of Candida species. Since the predominant structural feature of the Candida mannans is a linear chain of 1-2 linked a-D-mannopyranose (i.e. the epitope structure) this occurrence is probably an explanation for the observed cross-reactivity.
