Anti-pig IgM antibodies in human serum react predominantly with Gal(alpha 1-3)Gal epitopes.
|
| description: |
The epitope inhibited the binding of human sera to pig RBCs in a hemagglutination assay. The minimal structure of the epitope was determined by inhibition studies with several different carbohydrates. Human sera reaction with alpha-D-Gal, GalN, Methyl-alpha-Gal, Melibiose, and stachyose, indicating that Gal(alpha1-3)Gal is the minimal structure recognized by human sera.
