Partial characterization of the cross-reacting determinant, a carbohydrate epitope shared by decay accelerating factor and the variant surface glycoprotein of the African Trypanosoma brucei.
|
| description: |
This epitope is derived from the GPI anchor, and it is a partial region of the cross-reactive determinant (CRD) found on the different VSG from T. brucei. The CRD is cryptic and revealed only after hydrolysis of the phosphatidylinositol anchor of the VSG proteins with VSG lipase or phosphatidyl-inositol-specific phospholipase C.
Inhibition by the epitope of affinity purified anti-CRD (cross-reacting determinant) antibodies reaction in RIA against the soluble form of decay accelerating factor (DFA-S), carrying a glycosyl phosphatidylinositol anchor was tested.
