The epitope is deduced to be the most effective epitope as the inhibition effected by both 6-0-a-L-rhamnosyl-D-glucose and L-rhamnose is similar. They both effectively inhibit the reactivity of anti-type 23 and anti-type 32 antisera to the type homologous and heterologous pneumococcal capsular polysaccharide preparations.
