The epitope was deduced by loss of binding when Pseudomonas exotoxin A (PE38) molecule was mutated at the epitopic residues. Binding to all mAbs is eliminated by mutation R490A, whereas mutation of the other for epitopic residues abolished binding of one or two of the four mAbs.
