Intraneuronal APP, not free Abeta peptides in 3xTg-AD mice: implications for tau versus Abeta-mediated Alzheimer neurodegeneration.
|
| description: |
Immunohistochemistry was performed on cerebral cortex of 3xTg-AD and 3xTg-AD;BACE-/- mice (5-7 or 10-12 months old). A similar extent of tau immunoreactivity in the perikarya of cortical and hippocampal neurons of 5- to 7-month-old 3xTg-AD (Fig. 7A–C) and 3xTg-AD/BACE-/- mice was observed. Tau immunoreactivity increased in older 10- to 12-month-old 3xTg-AD. However, the absence of BACE protein and therefore free A beta peptides did not alter the distribution or intensity of tau pathology.
