Protective immunity to ricin toxin conferred by antibodies against the toxin's binding subunit (RTB).
|
| description: |
The author provided positions correspond to the location of the epitope on the Ricin Toxin subunit B. The epitope was deduced from homology to phage-displayed random peptides as described in the cited reference, McGuinness and Mantis, Infect Immun. 2006 74:3463 [PMID:16714577].
The epitope-specific mAb neutralized the effect of ricin toxin on Vero cells and THP-1 human monocytes. It also inihibited the binding of ricin to galactosides (as in asialofetuin and bone marrow derived macrophages) but futher studies showed that the mAbs epitope is adjacent to, but not within, RTB’s galactose binding domains.
