Genetics and molecular specificity of sialylation of Histophilus somni lipooligosaccharide (LOS) and the effect of LOS sialylation on Toll-like receptor-4 signaling.
|
| description: |
The epitope was deduced. The organism name Haemophilus somnus is a synonym of the name Histophilus somni used in the manuscript.
The epitope expression on the parent strain 2336 and its derived strain 738 (a clonal LOS phase variant of 2336) was investigated in ELISA with the epitope-specific mAb, with and without prior neuraminidase treatment. The expression on the phase variant showed that the epitope has variant expression, as some but not all the clonal isolates were reactive. The epitope is stated to convert to beta-(1–3) linked Gal-GlcNAc in th e phase variants. In all cases, neuraminidase treatment enhanced the reactivity with the mAb, suggesting that sialylation of the epitope Gal residue hinders the reactivity.
