The immune response to group B streptococcus type III capsular polysaccharide is directed to the -Glc-GlcNAc-Gal- backbone epitope.
|
| description: |
The epitope structure represents one repeating unit with two extra monosaccharides of the branched capsular polysaccharide of S. pneumoniae type 14.
The anti-epitope antisera was unable to react with native, heat-killed GBS type III cells, but a slight increase in reactivity was obtained after treatment of the cells with sialidase to remove the sialic acid residue that represents the only difference between the polysaccharides of GBS type III and S. pneumoniae type 14.
