The epitope structure represents two repetitive units of the branched capsular polysaccharide of S. pneumoniae type 14.
The anti-epitope antisera reacted with native, heat-killed GBS type III cells. A siginificant increase in reactivity is seen after treatment of the cells with sialidase to remove the sialic acid residue that represents the only difference between the polysaccharides of GBS type III and S. pneumoniae type 14.
