The epitope structure represents a fragment of the repetitive unit of the branched capsular polysaccharide of Group B Streptococcus serotype III.
The anti-epitope antisera was unable to react with native, heat-killed GBS type III cells, both before and after treatment of the cells with sialidase to remove the sialic acid residue that represents the only difference between the polysaccharides of GBS type III and S. pneumoniae type 14.
