name:
A human antibody recognizing a conserved epitope of H5 hemagglutinin broadly neutralizes highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 viruses.
description:
This set of residues is found conserved among all the (sub)clades of the H5N1 subtype except for subclade 7.2 (such as A/Chicken/Vietnam/NCVD-016/08) where Serine 121 is subsituted with Tyrosine.
The ability of the epitope-specific Fab to bind HA by EM was analyzed. The binding was shown to occur at the membrane-distal tip of HA.
