Natural anti-A and anti-B of the ABO system: allo- and autoantibodies have different epitope specificity.
|
| description: |
The epitope is the terminal trisaccharide from blood group B antigen, and is shared among the three type B antigens.
Epitope-specific human Abs (IgG + IgM + IgA) isolated by affinity purification from blood type A donors reacted with the B type 3 tetrasaccharide strongly. By immuno-depletion, it was shown that the reactivity is solely based on the presence of the antibodies against the epitope. A low but detectable reactivity was found in B blood type sera, but by immuno-affinity and immuno-depletion studies, it was found to depend on the cross-reactivity of anti-A antibodies with B-type antigens.
