The epitope was identified by truncation studies. The epitope-specific Ab reacted with the affinity-purified full-length Varicella-Zoster Virus IE63 protein. Alanine substitution of either the first 5 amino acids (E1A to V5A) or the last 5 amino acids (P6A to S10A) (lane 6) eliminated rec-MAb 63P4 binding.
