The epitope is the native version (ELQETNAALQ) of the sequence found in COMP. The peptide is predicted to naturally be deaminated (to yield ELQETDAALQ) in the cartilage at a slow but significant rate.The synthetic peptide includes an extra N-terminal cysteine residue.
This mAb obtained after immunization with the deaminated variant peptide, was reactive to both the deaminated peptide and the natural Asn42-containing epitope.
