name:
A plaque-specific antibody clears existing beta-amyloid plaques in Alzheimer's disease mice.
description:
Treatment of 9 months old APP mice with the epitope-specific mAb led to significant prevention of A beta deposition in hippocampus and cortex. In contrast, the aged PDAPP mice (expressing human Abeta) treated from 18 to 24 months showed no effect on levels of existing deposited A beta in either the hippocampus or cortex. A dramatic increase in microhemorrhage with treatment with the epitope-specific mAb was observed.
