name:
A unique and conserved neutralization epitope in H5N1 influenza viruses identified by an antibody against the A/Goose/Guangdong/1/96 hemagglutinin.
description:
Epitope residues were calculated from [PDB: 4MHJ] as the antigen residues at 4 Å
atomic distance from the antibody.
Prophylactic administration of the epitope-specific H5M9 IgG protected 100% of the mice from lethal challenge with influenza A virus (A/Vietnam/1194/2004(H5N1)) and prevented weight loss. In the therapeutic model, a single dose of 20 mg/kg H5M9 provided 66.7% protection and mice showed recovery in body weight after initial infection.
